Dock Talk 2022 - Family Updates

Peter Sanborn

Hi all - welcome to Dock Talk - the pre-summer update of what's happening in everyone's lives and a chance for us to brag a little about kids, siblings, pets etc....

Aunt Camilla Turns 92!

On June 9, Camilla celebrated her 92nd Birthday...and she looks great pictured here with her birthday bouquet.

The Feldmans

Nothing all that grand happened in the Feldman household since last summer, but things have been rolling along quite nicely. We even got to go to Hawaii…and got Covid on our first day there! *Sigh* In other news…

Miles just graduated from 5th grade and had a great Little League season. Despite feeling rusty after two years of being benched by Covid, Miles became a valuable team player, known for keeping his head in the game and having a great grasp of fundamentals, and he even pitched a few times! Soon, he’ll be off to his first sleepaway camp and he’s almost as tall as Amy (not a huge accomplishment…but still!).

Sam just wrapped up a very successful 10th grade year and it was such a relief to be back in person! They balanced being a trombonist in the awesome Berkeley High Jazz band, writing for the award-winning high school paper, making lots of new and really wonderful friends, and taking extra creative writing and poetry classes through Stanford Online High School. Sam is also rocking a fantastic new hair color and getting ready for a 3-week residential camp at UC Santa Cruz.

Our dog, Calvin, continues to be adorable, quirky, and very cuddly. He is happiest running full speed on the beach or hiding under a mound of blankets.

(see if you can find Calvin!)

Keith and Amy are also doing just fine! Among other things, we’re celebrating/bracing for Keith’s new 3-year stint as chair of the Ethnic Studies Department at Cal, and while Amy’s book sales aren’t going to break the bank, it has been fun to receive positive feedback.

Bonnie's Bunch

Jim retired in February and we have been getting our house ready to list and continue to look for our retirement home in New Bern, North Carolina.

Owen continues to travel the country and world filming yoga videos for Hydrow, as well as working at Boston Children’s Hospital in Type 1 Diabetes research.

Kara has taken a position at a new veterinarian practice and she and Nik have bought their first home outside Boston to close on June 20.

The Riggers (Sue and Bill)

Kimberly is in Chicago, having finished her Masters in Physics, and is now working for S&C Electric, checking out their products for use by their utility-company clients, and aiming to make the grid more efficient and reliable.

Thomas has one more semester before attaining his Masters in Computer Science. He's living here while he's in school, working full-time (part time during the semester) for Vectare, a government contracting company in Fairfax. With that schedule, we don't get to see him often.

Bill and I don't understand much of what either of them is doing, so for details, you'll have to ask them!

We're planning to head to SB at the end of June, but that depends a bit on Roberta Rigger, Bill's mom, who at 95 is back in the hospital with various issues. Mentally, she's still sharp as a tack, but physically, things are different. We think she'll be able to get back this weekend to her retirement community, with Hospice checking in several times a week.

The Mitras (Kathy and Sami)

This past year Mallika continued to grow her career as a Lead Investing Reporter at Money Magazine. In addition to publishing weekly stories, she landed two big cover stories:

Leela was selected by Art in Print - a program of the Harvard University-affiliated art organization Zone 3 - which is designed to make buying art more accessible to the public. They choose the work of local artists to feature on limited release posters that they sell in the Boston area. From that pool of artists, they have the public vote on which artwork should be included on their annual calendar, and she was selected for that, too!

The (Peter and Victoria) Sanborns

Audrey is completing her junior year at CalPoly. She continues to pursue her passion for Equestrian Eventing. Last year she won the West Coast Championship for riders under 25 years-old. This year she will be competing with a new horse named Lex which she acquired this Fall and she has been training all winter.

Hawkins graduated from Mercer Island High School on June 9th. As you can see the Seattle weather did not cooperate but it was a fun and meaningful ceremony nonetheless.

Hawkins also won the Washington State Soccer Championship as chronicled here.
